When Love Hurts

When Love Hurts

Western Isles Pregnancy Crisis Support (WIPCS) offers free, caring, confidential support for any pregnancy-related distress. Our clients contact us any time of the year, for many different reasons. One thing they share in common is the unexpected circumstances they find themselves in, heartbroken and in turmoil.

An unintended pregnancy. We were careful, and yet… Now what? He says he won’t stand by me. Choose between him and a baby. Where’s the love? Words are cheap. The moment’s over. It wasn’t meant.

The scan that’s causing concern. Something’s wrong. How can this be? Suddenly, joy turns to sorrow. And worry. What happens now?

The baby that isn’t breathing. Still, silent, like a porcelain doll. What wouldn’t you give to see those cheeks flush pink and hear that newborn cry.

The baby you long for, and still your arms are empty and your heart aches desperately. Others seem to get pregnant so easily. Why not us? We have so much love to give. If only…

The pregnancy you terminated long ago. The years are passing, but you haven’t forgotten. Every year another milestone. What would they be doing now? Your misty thoughts take you places you can only imagine.

Why does it all hurt so much? Heartache is a physical pain. Researchers have confirmed that the brain processes emotional upset with the same circuitry that processes physical injury. No surprise there. You’ve felt it. Gut-wrenching agony, the tightness in the chest strangling your every breath, head spinning, hands shaking, palms sweating and the unearthly wail that erupts from some previously unknown depth in your soul. Tears – either refuse to spill, or threaten to never stop. No appetite. Poor sleep. The list goes on. As does the world around. It shouldn’t. Everything should stop. After all, your world has just fallen apart. Unrecognisably so, nothing feels the same.

The cost of love. It can be a high price. While the world celebrates another Valentine’s, giddy with romance and roses and Hollywood love stories, your heart breaks that little bit more. We just want to reach out and offer you our tender loving care. We see you. We hear you. And we’re here. Make the call and let us help you through it.
